CNPD Distinguished Service and Teaching Awards

We are excited to announce an initiative to add two, annual awards to honor faculty members in the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD) in the areas of SERVICE and TEACHING:  

Awards 

  • CNPD Distinguished Academic Service Award: The CNPD Distinguished Academic Service Award is intended to recognize an individual who demonstrates a high-level of service within the department, college, university, and profession, including any leadership roles. 
  • CNPD Distinguished Teaching Award: the CNPD Distinguished Teaching Award is intended to recognize an individual who demonstrates excellence in teaching by integrating teaching methods that are engaging and produce high-quality student learning outcomes.  

Overview 

These faculty awards are meant to recognize outstanding work in the areas of teaching or service. One awardee from the CNPD will be selected for each award each academic year.  

  • Timeframe: Nominations will be open February 1st.  
  • Deadline: Applications are due March 1st at 11:59 PM.
  • Recognition: Recognition will take place at the Spring College Faculty meeting in April/May.  

Award Eligibility 

  • To be considered for this award, faculty must meet the following criteria.  
  • Employed at UND for 2 years or greater
  • Have not been recognized in the same award category in the past five years
  • Be a CNPD faculty member (60% or greater FTE at the rank of instructor or above) 

Nomination Procedure 

Nomination Instructions: The nominator must submit the DocuSign nomination form by March 1.

Contents of the nomination form should include:  

  • Letter of Support from Nominator (see rubric for details)
  • Support from the Department Chair included in DocuSign (see rubric for details)
  • CV of nominee (available from Dean’s Office)
  • Nominator can be a CNPD colleague or self-nominated 

Selection Criteria and Selection Process 

  • Nomination Review and Selection Process: A three-person committee comprised of a Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work faculty will review the applicants according to the award criteria. A predetermined award rubric will be followed. See Rubric for details.  

Recognition 

  • Recognition: Recognition will take place at the Spring College Faculty meeting. A certificate of award and plaque will be given indicating the award received and year. Awards will begin April/May 2025 at the CNPD College Faculty Meeting and continue annually.  
  • Announcement of Award: The announcement of this award will be at the Spring CNPD faculty meeting. Dissemination of the award announcement will be done via the Dean’s office and CNPD Marketing Coordinator.  

Sustainability 

  1. Sustainability: A College Distinguished Faculty Awards Review committee will be introduced into the CNPD bylaws, Spring 2025.  Membership terms on the committee are staggered, 3 persons comprised of one faculty from each department (Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics), 2-year commitment.  If a committee member is nominated for an award, the Dean or designee will appoint a temporary faculty member from the same department to assist with the review of award applications and faculty member selection to receive the award.

  • Developing service experience across department, college, university, and profession/community. 
  • Developing service leadership.  
  • Service experience has a positive impact on department, college, university, and profession/community.
  • Range of service experience 
  • Encourages student engagement in service when appropriate/available.  
  • Demonstrates an effective/impactful leadership role in service activities
